From Inspiration to Creation

First, I have to start out with my Inspiration from Etsy....Pretty sassy shirt huh:)
Click on the picture to be taken right to her shop so you can buy one if you want...or....make your own like I did!  Mini-tutorial in this post!

The picture of the shirt is from the etsy store Snuggle Bug Kidz

Here is my Creation:
And here is my "How-To"
Please don't judge too harshly, this is my first attempt at a tutorial:
First, get your green ribbon (mine was from Hobby Lobby) and pin it on your shirt like a flower stem.
Making sure to fold the end under the shirt and pin in place there too.

Add your leaves by taking smaller pieces of ribbon and making 2 loops.  Pin them under the stem.

Use a zig-zag stitch with green thread and just start from the bottom and sew to the top of the stem (catching the "leaves" in your stitch).

Take some fabric glue (this is all I had on hand, it seemed to work) and a sparkly rhinestone and glue the rhinestone to the middle of the flower you buy to attach at the top.  (This flower was at Hobby Lobby for $3.99 and I had a 40% off coupon that I got here, there is a different coupon each week, so sometimes it is 40% off).

The flower I bought had a pin and a hair clip on the back for attaching to hair, hats, headbands...etc...

And Voila!!!  You have made your own custom Interchangeable flower Valentine (or not valentine) shirt, which did NOT cost you $24.99!  My total cost was around $11.  The shirt was $7 from Old Navy, Flower pin was $3(with the coupon) and the ribbon was $1 from Hobby Lobby (it was 50% off) and there was enough ribbon to do 2 shirts and have some left over.

Here is another shot of the finished product:)

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or problems trying to make this:)  I'll help if I can!!

Or, if you are crafty and want to try your hand at these....here is a great tutorial on how to make them yourself!!!

New Blog Signature!

Hi everyone!!!  I just had to post about this great company that does Blog design.  I tried them out because of my good friend Janette (go check out her give aways, she is hosting one for some sassy earrings right now).  So far, I have only gotten a little signature from them, but I will definitely be going back to them when I decide how exactly I want to re-vamp my blogs:)  I HAD to do a quick post so I could check out my fun new signature:)  What do you think???

What a crazy Craze!!!

I love a good, quick, crafty, cheap and fun project!!  After being inspired by the company Home a la Mode, I went to Walmart and bought:
You see, I have NEVER really liked Sock Monkeys.  I mean, they are monkeys made of Men's socks right??  Until at Home a la Mode I saw all these cute, cute, cute ones!  Pink, purple, polka-dot...etc....Okay, I am now officially Sock Monkey Crazed!!!  I decided to turn those $3 socks (which came with buttons on them already...yay for eyes included) into some of our very own sock monkeys!

So I enlisted some help (we used this tutorial)

 It was pretty fun!
And following it (with just a couple of adjustments because of the size of my socks, etc) we made these:

Now, the first time I make things there are always oopsies like:
*the tails are EXTREMELY long
*The eyes are maybe too high?
*In a couple of places the stitching is sort of bad

I had to finish them while the girls were in bed, so they didn't get them until the next morning....and I knew that all my oopsies weren't so bad when I got these morning smiles!!
(love that morning hair, don't you!!!)
And, if you follow my other blog, about our family you will know what a fashionista my oldest daughter is.  I had a little extra "sock" left from the 2 pairs I had made the monkeys out of...and she "styled" hers!
Anyway, I would say this project was for any level sewer (from beginner to more experienced) and was super fun!  Stuffing the polyfill was probably my least favorite part because I couldn't seem to get it very even.  All-in-all it was a fun, cheap ($7 total for both monkeys) and pretty quick project!  Go make some sock monkeys, or go to Etsy or Home a la Mode and find some really cute ones for sale (they are all about $30 though)!
I am off to get some housework done while my girls nap!

New Year, New Inspiration, and a New Give-away!

Hey everyone! I decided since it is a New Year, I am going to change up my website a little by blogging more. Sharing gift ideas, tutorials, and inspirations. And because of my super fun friends, Janette and Allison (who hosted give-aways for me on their blogs) I have gotten the give-away bug. So expect lots of fun blogs about the things I make along with give-aways and postings of items available for purchase by emailing me at info@kristikelly.com
Okay...now on to my new inspiration and a New Give-away!!
My sweet Hubs left for work as usual the other morning, and I thought he looked especially handsome in his argyle vest...so I snapped a pic!
The Inspiration:
I then took my youngest, Avery, to Hobby Hobby as she calls it for a small sewing supply spree (Kyndall was in Preschool). Of course I can't RESIST buying a little fabric. I was so in love with a new argyle print (INSPIRED by my handsome hubs) they carry, that I bought a yard of it and while Ave was napping I made this fun tie bib. Now, I am giving it away!
The Back:

All you have to do to win this stylin' bib (for your baby or a gift for someone you know) is become a fan of Kristi Kelly Designs on Facebook AND leave a comment on this post telling me you became a fan! It is THAT easy!! And if you aren't on Facebook, you can become a follower of this blog and leave a comment on this post letting me know you are a follower:) Good Luck! Give-away is open all weekend until Sunday @ Midnight central time and the winner will be posted on Monday! This is fast and furious peeps, so sign up and tell your friends!!!
